General Atomics and Saab test LoyalEye early-warning radar on MQ-9B

Published

General Atomics has conducted flight trials of the MQ-9B drone fitted with Saab’s LoyalEye early-warning radar in external pod configuration. The system demonstrated simultaneous detection and tracking of diverse air targets—including fighters and civil aircraft—and maritime surface contacts during testing. The configuration is being assessed as a long-endurance complement to conventional airborne early-warning aircraft; key parameters such as detection range and simultaneous track capacity have not been disclosed, and the programme remains a technology demonstration rather than an operational system.
