France converts AMX-30 hulls into remote-controlled assault robots under REFURBOT

Published

A French programme called REFURBOT strips ageing AMX-30 tanks of their manned 105 mm turrets and fits a remotely-operated module with a 25 mm cannon while adapting the chassis for unmanned control. The initiative is intended to sustain heavy-armour numbers as France operates only around 200 Leclerc tanks, converting legacy hulls into unmanned assault platforms at lower cost than new procurement. Russian milblogger reporting frames it as a hedge against armoured-force shortfalls rather than a next-generation capability.
