FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile reportedly shot down by small-arms fire in Kursk Oblast

Published 24 August 2026

Russian volunteer unit BARS-Kursk claims to have downed an FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile with small-arms fire in Kursk Oblast. Footage showed two Flamingos flying at low altitude under sustained ground fire, with one subsequently falling into woodland. If confirmed, the incident suggests that the low-altitude terrain-masking profile that allows Flamingo to evade radar simultaneously exposes it to infantry rifle fire — a significant countermeasure implication for both sides.
