First E-3G Sentry AWACS destroyed in combat; MQ-9 Reapers credited with Iranian submarine kill

Published

A Russian channel reports that US Air Force E-3G Sentry AWACS serial 81-0005, based at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, was destroyed by an Iranian missile strike — the first combat loss of an E-3 in the type’s operational history. Separately, the channel details the munitions expended by carrier squadron VFA-41 in the wider US–Iran exchange, encompassing 173 GBU-38 JDAM, 41 AGM-154 JSOW, 10 AGM-84K SLAM-ER and six AIM-120 AMRAAM among others; MQ-9 Reaper drones are cited as among the platforms that engaged at least one Iranian Ghadir-class submarine during the campaign.
