EW transmitters induce detonator voltage on FPV drones; shorter wires reduce but don't eliminate risk

Published

Russian drone engineering practitioners document a recurring accidental-detonation problem: electromagnetic induction from onboard transmitters — high-power video links, radio sets and EW sources — induces sufficient voltage in electric detonator lead wires to fire the warhead prematurely, especially when leads are left long. Shortening the leads reduces the exposure but does not eliminate the risk, as transmitter frequency and power can still couple energy into shorter conductors. Switching to less-sensitive detonators is recommended, with careful attention to ensuring adequate firing current.
