Europe's HYDEF hypersonic interceptor programme launches with €110M initial funding

The European HYDEF (Hypersonic Defence Interceptor) programme, supported by the European Defence Fund, has entered an initial €110 million phase aimed at producing a technology demonstrator capable of engaging hypersonic and highly manoeuvring targets. Multiple European defence companies are participating. Developers caution that HYDEF remains pre-production, and its real-world intercept performance against systems such as Russia’s Kinzhal and Zircon has not yet been demonstrated in testing.
