Elistair–Exail tethered-drone USV combo extends maritime surveillance horizon to 30+ km

Published

Russian military-engineering channels note a French capability demonstration combining the Exail DriX autonomous surface vessel with an Elistair Khronos tethered UAV. Lifting the sensor payload to 60 m via a tether expands the visible horizon from 5–6 km at hull height to over 30 km, while the physical cable provides resistance to GPS jamming and radio-frequency suppression that would defeat a free-flying drone. The system is claimed to sustain 24 hours of airborne operation without battery swaps and tracks the moving vessel autonomously in a follow-me mode. The Russian analyst flags its main weakness as limited ability to respond to fast-moving or close-range threats.
