Destinus + Rheinmetall RUTA Block 3: 2,000 km cruise missile for Ukraine

Published

Dutch Destinus and German Rheinmetall are developing a RUTA Block 3 cruise missile for Ukraine with a stated range of up to 2,000 km and a 250 kg warhead, according to Russian military reporting. Destinus had previously supplied lighter RUTA Block 1 cruise missiles to Ukrainian forces. A Russian defence engineer noted that existing counter-drone measures — mobile fire groups, interceptor drones, and lasers — are largely ineffective against this class of small cruise missile, which requires proper SAM missiles and proximity-fuzed shells to intercept, presenting a qualitatively harder problem than low-speed loitering munitions. The engineer drew a direct parallel to the Russian Banderol as the intended Russian equivalent.
