FP-9 Fire Point technical parameters detailed: Iskander-class dimensions, 1,000+ km range

Published · updated

A Russian engineering channel, citing a Danish exhibition model placed beside the FP-7, gives the most detailed public specification yet for the FP-9 ballistic missile: 1,100 mm diameter (versus 920 mm for the Iskander-M), 9.5 m length, a solid-fuel motor approximately 6.5 m long with an estimated 5 tonnes of propellant. Calculated ranges are 1,000+ km with a 500 kg warhead or roughly 800 km with 800 kg. The channel traces the design lineage to KB Yuzhnoye’s post-Soviet ‘Sapsan/Grom-2’ project and ultimately to the Soviet-era Oka short-range ballistic missile.
