Chinese researchers reach 38.49% laser-to-drone charging efficiency with hybrid receiver

Published

Researchers at the Civil Aviation University of China and Tsinghua University report raising laser wireless power transfer efficiency for UAVs to 38.49%, up from approximately 34.65%, using a hybrid receiver combining a perovskite solar cell, a thermoelectric generator, and antimony-triselenide nanocrystals as a thermal barrier, integrated under the wing with airflow cooling. All tests were conducted on a static model; in-flight trials remain ahead. Open engineering challenges include laser beam tracking on a moving drone, radiation safety margins, and weather-induced transmission losses.
