China's Yitian-L SHORAD reportedly upgraded to 12-missile configuration; NORINCO silent

Published

Ukrainian open-source channel Istoria Zbroi reports imagery showing a variant of China’s Yitian-L short-range air defence vehicle carrying two six-round launch blocks — 12 TY-90 missiles versus the standard four — on the Dongfeng Mengshi 4×4 chassis. NORINCO has not confirmed the upgrade and the type of missile in the new containers is unverified. The standard Yitian-L uses the TY-90 (1.9 m, 90 mm diameter, 3 kg warhead, IR seeker with laser proximity fuze) against helicopters, drones and cruise missiles at 500 m–6 km range and up to 4 km altitude; its X-band 3D radar detects targets to 18 km. A larger magazine would allow sustained engagement without reloading.
