China's Guowan LEO constellation hits 30 Mbps, assessed as sufficient for real-time drone control

Published

Chinese polar research vessels in the Arctic established a 30 Mbps video link with under-one-second latency to an Antarctic station via the Guowan low-orbit constellation, which currently fields 180 of 12,992 planned satellites. Chinese military analysts cited in the reporting assess that bandwidth threshold as already sufficient for tactical communications and real-time command of unmanned systems. Guowan trails Starlink’s approximately 11,000 operational satellites but the public demonstration is described as the first stated military-capable performance benchmark for the programme.
