China launches hyperspectral ISR satellites with 400-TOPS onboard AI and five-day global revisit

Published

Two Dongfang Haiyang hyperspectral satellites were launched from a sea-based platform in the Yellow Sea on 5 August, joining an existing constellation that includes Gaofeng-01. Each satellite carries a 400-TOPS onboard compute module running physics-informed AI — algorithms combining neural networks with physical laws — to process hyperspectral imagery in orbit and eliminate downlink latency. Key parameters: 5-metre ground resolution, 300-km imaging swath, 22 spectral channels, approximately 300 kg mass. The three-satellite fleet achieves five-day revisit for any point on Earth.
