A pro-Russian analyst reports a fifth cargo vessel—a Liberian-flagged ship carrying hazardous cargo—has sunk east of Varna, Bulgaria, after a USV strike; the attacker’s type remains unidentified and OSINT analysts are still attempting to classify the platform. The tally for October 2026 now stands at five ships sunk and four more damaged and drifting, with only the Chelsea-3 having been towed to port. In response to the campaign, the United States has deployed a P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft to Bulgaria and France has sent an Atlantique 2 to Romania; the Atlantique 2 is reported to have been the first asset to detect a group of naval drones and warn commercial shipping of the threat.
