Belgium accelerates F-16 deliveries to fill intercept gap against jet Geran-5

Published

Belgium plans to deliver ten F-16 fighters to Ukraine before the end of 2026 — up from a previously announced seven — according to Russian milblogger Military Informant. Prime Minister De Wever announced the expanded transfer after meeting Zelensky in Brussels; the stated Ukrainian need is specifically for interceptors capable of engaging fast jet-powered Geran variants that current air defences struggle to catch. Belgium intends to transfer up to 53 F-16s in total by 2029 as it transitions its own air force to F-35A. Belgian-developed 70 mm anti-drone rockets were not included in the announced package.
