Australia commits $1B+ to Ghost Shark UUV with Anduril; IAI pitches Blue Whale

Australia has allocated over $1 billion for autonomous underwater vehicles, centred on the Ghost Shark system co-developed with Anduril. In parallel, Israel’s IAI is actively marketing its Blue Whale UUV to the Australian market for reconnaissance and underwater-object detection. Russian defence analysts attribute Australia’s accelerated investment directly to lessons from Ukraine’s naval drone war, characterising unmanned underwater systems as a bridge capability while nuclear-powered submarines remain years from delivery.
