Swedish police seize Russian-crewed cargo ship suspected as drone base

Bottom line

Swedish police seized a Russian-crewed cargo ship off Gotland, suspecting it was used as a floating base for Russian reconnaissance drones, according to Russian military bloggers.

Why it matters

Highlights potential Russian use of civilian maritime assets for ISR in NATO waters, raising concerns about hybrid warfare tactics and the need for enhanced maritime domain awareness.

Russian sources (epoddubny, Victory Drones) report that Swedish police raided and seized a cargo ship with an all-Russian crew northwest of Gotland. The suspicion is that the vessel was being used as a floating base for Russian reconnaissance drones. The owner reportedly has an office in Kaliningrad. No official charges have been filed yet, and the claim remains unverified by Swedish authorities.
