Ukraine strikes Russian refineries with long-range drones

Bottom line

Ukrainian President Zelensky claims strikes on Omsk and Ukhta refineries using An-196 RS and modified FP-6 drones, indicating expanded Ukrainian long-range strike capabilities.

Why it matters

Successful long-range strikes on Russian refineries demonstrate Ukraine's growing ability to project power deep into adversary territory, potentially impacting Russian fuel supplies and war economy logistics.

Ukrainian President Zelensky claims that An-196 RS drones with a range of approximately 2,500 km struck the Ukhta refinery, while modified FP-6 drones hit the Omsk refinery, located 1,900 km from the Ukrainian border. These claims, if accurate, represent a significant escalation in Ukrainian long-range strike capabilities, reaching deep into Russian industrial and energy infrastructure. The reports highlight the increasing vulnerability of Russian domestic targets to Ukrainian drone forces.
