Ukraine deploys German Gepards on Kyiv bridges against Geran-4

Bottom line

Ukrainian sources report the installation of light anti-drone nets on Kyiv's Northern Bridge as a temporary countermeasure against heavy Geran-5 drones, following recent strikes on the structure.

Why it matters

The deployment of physical counter-drone nets on critical infrastructure indicates a shift towards passive defense against high-payload loitering munitions, highlighting the limitations of kinetic interceptors against large, slow-moving targets.

Ukrainian sources report the installation of light anti-drone nets on Kyiv’s Northern Bridge as a temporary countermeasure against heavy Geran-5 drones, following recent strikes on the structure. Russian milblogger Romanov claims a Geran drone struck the Moscow Bridge, noting it missed cable lines, while another Russian blogger doubts the effectiveness of nets against 500kg warheads. Ukrainian sources view the nets as a trial run for future protective structures, complementing existing German Gepard deployments on Kyiv bridges.
