Russian MoD showcases unmanned tanks at Center-2026 exercises

Bottom line

Russian sources report the demonstration of the Shturm heavy assault robotic system at Center-2026, designed for urban combat with remote or crewed operation capabilities.

Why it matters

The Shturm's dual-mode (remote/crewed) design for urban combat indicates a focus on reducing infantry casualties in high-intensity urban environments, a key requirement for NATO forces anticipating similar Russian capabilities.

OSINTdefender reports that Russia demonstrated the Shturm heavy assault robotic system at the Center-2026 exercises. The system is designed for urban combat and supports both remote and crewed operation. This adds specific detail to previous reports of the Russian MoD showcasing unmanned tanks at the same exercises.
