Russia claims 646 Ukrainian drones shot down overnight

Bottom line

Russian MoD claims 209 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones were intercepted across 14 regions during Center-2026 exercises, alongside demonstrations of new anti-drone systems.

Why it matters

The deployment of dedicated kinetic anti-drone systems (ZAK-57/30) and active protection on main battle tanks indicates a systematic shift toward layered, kinetic counter-UAV defenses for high-value assets.

Russian MoD reports that air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 209 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones between 08:00-20:00 MSK across 14 regions and the Black Sea. During the Center-2026 exercises, Russia also demonstrated the 57mm ZAK-57-MSK and 30mm ZAK-30 ‘Citadel’ anti-drone systems, as well as the Arena-M active protection system on T-90M tanks engaging FPV and fixed-wing drones.
