Russian jet drone enters Moldovan airspace, crashes near Chisinau

Bottom line

A Russian jet-powered drone entered Moldovan airspace, flying over Tiraspol and crashing near Brăneşti, 50km from Chisinau, marking a third airspace violation in one day.

Why it matters

The incursion of Russian drones into neutral neighboring countries like Moldova demonstrates the potential for collateral damage and diplomatic incidents, requiring NATO allies to monitor border security and consider implications for regional stability.

Multiple sources confirm that a Russian jet-powered drone, originating from the Oryol region, entered Moldovan airspace via the Odesa region. The drone flew over Rîbniţa/Tiraspol and crashed near Brăneşti, approximately 50km from Chisinau, exploding near a highway. This incident marks the third airspace violation by such drones in a single day, highlighting the risk of drone spillover into neutral neighboring states.
