Russian fiber-optic FPV and artillery coordination in Slavyansk

Bottom line

Russian forces are intensifying the use of fiber-optic FPV drones in the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk area, coordinating them with artillery softening to achieve high effectiveness against Ukrainian positions and vehicles.

Why it matters

NATO and Ukrainian units should anticipate increased reliance on fiber-optic FPVs in urban and semi-urban sectors, requiring enhanced counter-EW and mobile air defense capabilities to disrupt the drone-artillery coordination loop.

Ukrainian sources report that Russian forces are employing intensive fiber-optic FPV drone operations in the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, often following artillery softening of defenses. Eyewitness footage confirms the destruction of multiple vehicles and pickup trucks by these drones, with claims of high effectiveness against Ukrainian forces. This aligns with broader trends of Russian forces adapting FPV tactics to counter electronic warfare and improve targeting reliability in contested urban environments.
