Wingcopter
German maker of tilt-rotor VTOL delivery drones, now manufacturing Ukrainian reconnaissance drones through a new defence unit.
Wingcopter is a German drone-delivery company, founded in 2017 and based in Weiterstadt near Darmstadt, known for its tilt-rotor Wingcopter 198 — a drone that takes off vertically like a helicopter before swivelling its rotors to fly long distances as a fixed wing. Its civilian deployments have centred on medical and logistics delivery in places such as Malawi and Vanuatu.
In February 2026 the company moved into defence, launching a Wingcopter Security & Defence division and signing an agreement with Ukraine’s TAF Industries to manufacture the Babka reconnaissance drone on German soil for Ukrainian forces. The Babka was one of the seven joint-venture systems shown to President Zelensky and Chancellor Merz in Berlin that spring — the company’s first step from civilian delivery into battlefield reconnaissance production.
