Wingcopter GmbH is a German aerospace manufacturer based in Weiterstadt, established in 2017 under the leadership of CEO Tom Plümmer. The company initially gained prominence in the commercial and humanitarian sectors by designing and producing unmanned electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) delivery drones. Its early operations focused on last-mile logistics, mapping, surveying, and inspection services, utilizing a patented tilt-rotor mechanism that allows aircraft to take off vertically before transitioning to efficient fixed-wing flight. This technology enabled the company to secure partnerships with major entities such as Thales, Skyports, and the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) to deliver medical supplies via beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flights, including a notable deployment to a remote Scottish island during the COVID-19 pandemic. This production effort is conducted in partnership with TAF Industries, the Ukrainian manufacturer of the Babka system. By localizing production within Germany, Wingcopter aims to support Ukraine’s defense industrial base while adhering to European regulatory and supply chain standards. This move aligns with broader European efforts to bolster domestic defense manufacturing capabilities in response to regional security threats, particularly from Russia.

The company’s entry into the defense market has been highlighted in official Ukrainian government communications, including newsroom releases from the President of Ukraine, which acknowledge the partnership with Wingcopter and TAF Industries.
