Nordic Air Defence
Builds the Kreuger 100 low-cost interceptor drone for swarm counter-UAS.

Nordic Air Defence is a Swedish aerospace startup founded in March 2024 and headquartered in Stockholm. The company was established to address the growing threat of unmanned aerial systems on the modern battlefield, specifically focusing on low-cost, high-speed interceptors. Karl Rosander serves as the chief executive officer, leading a small engineering team that has grown to approximately 23 staff members since the firm’s inception. The company’s primary objective is to provide militaries with a cost-effective alternative to expensive missile systems for counter-drone operations.
The firm’s flagship product is the Kreuger 100, specifically the K100XR variant, which is designed as a lightweight, propeller-driven interceptor drone. Measuring approximately 0.3 meters in length and constructed from carbon fiber, the system is engineered for high speed, autonomy, and maneuverability. According to the manufacturer, the K100XR can exceed speeds of 354 km/h and reach altitudes of roughly 1,000 meters. The drone operates with a range of three kilometers and can loiter over a target area for twenty minutes. It utilizes onboard artificial intelligence to detect, classify, and track hostile drones with minimal operator input once launched. The system is described as radio-silent and does not require connectivity to a central server, allowing it to function independently in contested environments.
Nordic Air Defence positions the K100XR as a solution to the economic asymmetry of modern drone warfare, where expensive defensive missiles are used to destroy cheap commercial or military UAVs. The company argues that its interceptor provides a necessary layer of defense between traditional machine guns, electronic jammers, and high-cost missile systems. The technology is intended to counter Shahed-style one-way attack drones and smaller reconnaissance platforms, which have become central to Russian operations in Ukraine. By automating the interception process, the system allows drone pilots to focus on offensive operations while potential threats are neutralized autonomously.
The company has moved quickly to secure partnerships and funding since its founding. In 2024, Nordic Air Defence raised $4.4 million in funding, following an initial $3 million pre-seed round. This capital has supported the development of its engineering team and the scaling of production capabilities. In September 2025, the firm announced a collaboration with Volvo Defense to integrate the K100XR into a vehicle-mounted protection pod known as VIPRO. This system is designed to allow military trucks and troop carriers to defend themselves against drone threats. Additionally, the company signed a letter of intent with Polish defense firms WB Group and Tantalit to explore the integration of the K100XR into Poland’s counter-drone network and potential local assembly.
The development of Nordic Air Defence’s technology coincides with a broader shift in European defense strategy, as nations seek to adapt to the drone-driven battlefield observed in Ukraine. The company’s emphasis on low-cost, autonomous interception reflects a growing industry trend toward scalable counter-UAS solutions. While the K100XR has been demonstrated in live operations against airborne targets, the firm continues to expand its international presence, leveraging Sweden’s position as a base for defense innovation. The company’s approach highlights the increasing importance of affordable, automated systems in countering the proliferation of unmanned aerial threats.
