Callen-Lenz

Callen-Lenz Associates is a British defence SME working the full stack of small unmanned aircraft — airframes, avionics, mission software, and the test-pilot services that go with them. The company was incorporated in September 2007 and keeps its registered office at Manor Farm in Chilmark, a few miles west of Salisbury in Wiltshire, within easy reach of the UK’s established test ranges on Salisbury Plain and at Boscombe Down. Companies House still lists its primary activity under management consultancy, a holdover from the firm’s origins before the UAV business grew to dominate its output.

The company says that design, development, and manufacturing of its UAV platforms and associated avionics is done in-house, and it describes a predominantly UK-based supply chain. Alongside the airframes, Callen-Lenz builds SkyCircuits3, its own mission management system and flight software. SC3 is positioned by the firm as the autonomy layer that lets a single operator run a platform while the system handles intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and payload tasks. That hardware and software work is paired with aviation services and consultancy drawing on in-house design engineers, test pilots, and flight test engineers — the combination of capabilities that makes a small firm an attractive subcontractor for larger primes as well as a product house in its own right.

Callen-Lenz operates under ISO 9001 and holds Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus accreditations, the standard credentials for a UK supplier working into the Ministry of Defence, and it is a member of ADS, the British aerospace, defence, security, and space trade body. Its public capability declarations with ADS span whole-aircraft platform integration, fuselage and wing structures, launch and recovery, avionics and flight-control systems — the breadth of a small firm that does its own engineering rather than reselling other people’s subsystems.

Customers are described in general terms rather than named: Callen-Lenz says a considerable number of its platforms are in service with civilian and military operators, and that this operational feedback shapes successive versions of its products. Specific contract values, customer lists, and programme names are not disclosed in its public filings or trade-association profile, which is typical for a firm of this size in UK defence. The company lists Jon Perry as head of sales and Hayley Waterton as head of marketing, both reachable through the Salisbury office.

Within the British small-UAV sector Callen-Lenz sits in the layer below the primes — small enough to iterate quickly on its own airframes and autonomy stack, large enough to carry the quality and cyber standards that MoD-adjacent procurement increasingly requires.
